Carbon Literacy Training with Lighthouse Sustainability

Introduction: Guest Blog From Lighthouse Sustainability

At Play It Green, we’re passionate about empowering businesses to make sustainable changes that benefit both the planet and their bottom line. This week, we’re thrilled to feature a guest blog from our partner Lighthouse Sustainability, who offer exceptional carbon literacy training for businesses.

Their engaging and informative programmes not only educate teams about the importance of reducing carbon emissions but also provide practical strategies to implement positive change. So, read on to discover how Lighthouse Sustainability can help your business navigate the journey towards a greener, more sustainable future.

Lighthouse Sustainability

Lighthouse Sustainability develops and delivers comprehensive training programmes for businesses and individuals. Moreover, these programmes build understanding in critical climate-related and sustainability topics across carbon, circular economy, and biodiversity.

With nearly 30 years in the sustainability sector, Emma Burlow established Lighthouse Sustainability. Her goal was to share knowledge and technical experience to help mobilise an organisation’s sustainability strategy.

Furthermore, we coach leaders and advise boards on the necessary steps to address commercial risk and meet strategic goals. Our team trains others in the skills they need to adapt to a changing future, empowering them with knowledge. By helping organisations find and unleash their sustainability champions, we amplify change.

We focus on using an organisation’s existing resources to the best effect. Ultimately, success is measured through our clients moving faster and with more confidence as a result of our collaboration.

Carbon Literacy Training

One of our flagship courses is accredited Carbon Literacy training. It is adaptable for businesses, healthcare professionals, and the community (to name a few).

In essence, Carbon Literacy is an awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities. The Carbon Literacy Project is a UN-recognised Transformative Action Programme. It was set up to give everyone, everywhere, one day of Carbon Literacy training. Its aim is to empower people to make positive change.

The training covers climate change, carbon footprints, and how you can reduce emissions. Focus is placed on individual, community, and organisational actions.

The Carbon Literacy Training is 8 hours long. Usually, it is delivered over one day or two half-day sessions, and can be taken online or in person. The course provides a safe, positive space to build personal knowledge, confidence, and action.

At the end of the course, every learner identifies personal pledges to reduce carbon emissions. They then receive a Carbon Literate certification from the Carbon Literacy Project.

Carbon Literacy Train the Trainer

Recognising the need for an army of trainers to instil carbon action across businesses and communities, Lighthouse recently developed and certified a Carbon Literacy Train the Trainer course.

Our exclusive course is designed to develop confidence, understanding, and training skills. Intended for Carbon Literate learners with some experience in delivering training, it builds on existing knowledge.

This fast-paced and action-focused course provides the skills and confidence to develop a Carbon Literacy course. Additionally, it helps trainers understand inclusive delivery techniques to suit different learning styles.

We also work with organisations to help them get accredited as Carbon Literate Organisations. Carbon Literate Organisation (CLO) accreditation demonstrates a business’s commitment to climate change mitigation in the most precise possible way.

To support this journey, we offer Carbon Literacy Train the Trainer courses. These courses upskill a team and build internal capability. Moreover, we bring our experience in developing accredited Carbon Literacy courses. We help an organisation navigate the path to achieving CLO status.
