Future Street: Introduction
We’re delighted to welcome Future Street, leaders in smart, sustainable waste solutions, to the Play It Green community!
The company has joined our Climate Positive Workforce (£5 per employee per month for all the great value) and is tying nature repair directly into their Bigbelly solar smart bin sales! This means every step they take to keep public spaces cleaner and greener is also matched by work to repair the planet.
Future Street’s team will now receive weekly sustainability education, while the business makes a positive impact through nature repair, job creation and social value. They’ve also chosen to support The Woodland Trust by regiving 10% of the revenue they give to us, helping to extend their impact even further.
We caught up with Paul Barker, their UK Business Development Lead, to hear more about the business, their values and what the future holds for Future Street.
Please, tell us a little about Future Street.
Future Street provides the world-leading public litter solution – Bigbelly. Our range of Bigbelly sustainable bins has enabled our clients to make their public spaces cleaner, greener and smarter for over 20 years. Bigbelly bins safely hold litter inside them, can be supplied with a solar-powered secure internal compactor ( to hold up to 8x as much waste as a normal litter bin ) and can alert when they are reaching fullness.
The Bigbelly units can also be supplied with access to our CLEAN management system that provides a range of meaningful data, such as how often the Bigbelly is being used, tracking how much waste is being recycled and reporting busy “hotspot” footfall areas. This fantastic, proven technology is backed by our ongoing support service, including regular cleansing and maintenance visits, detailed regular reporting and a 5-year warranty.
We work closely with all of our clients to ensure that we provide them with a bespoke system that works for them and their communities, now and for many years to come.
Why is sustainability important to Future Street?
Sustainability is, obviously, one of the key issues of our times, with organisations and the public alike attempting to change behaviour to ensure the long-term well-being of our planet. We see Future Street as being a small but important part of this process.
The Bigbelly solution was created specifically to help managers of public spaces manage their waste in a significantly more sustainable way. As the distributor of Bigbelly in the UK, Future Street is aligned with the philosophy behind this technology, which is to help our clients be more efficient and environmentally friendly. As our intelligent Bigbelly units have always been powered by solar panels, sustainability has been a key part of our offering since day one.
The fact that all of our Bigbelly range securely holds litter inside means that there are no more wind-blown litter issues impacting the local environment and wildlife and due to the compaction of the litter inside the Bigbelly unit, bin collections are reduced by around 85%, with the associated reduction in vehicle movements and carbon mileage. Bigbelly can also be a powerful tool in encouraging the public to recycle.

What does the future hold for Future Street?
We view the future of the business as being very bright. We will continue to support our public sector clients – Councils, Education and NHS – to manage their waste sustainably through what are very economically challenging times for these sectors.
In recent years, we have started to widen our offering to the private sector too and are proud to work with some of the biggest names in the sports, parks, experience and entertainment sectors
