These are stories worth celebrating, and they remind us that every action connects to a bigger picture of change. Read on to discover how people and organisations are shaping a brighter future.

UK Electric Van Demand Doubles
The UK’s electric vehicle market is shifting up a gear. In August, battery electric vehicle registrations captured 26.5% of the new car market, its best showing this year. At the same time, electric van demand more than doubled compared with 2024, driven by greater model choice and hefty discounts from the Government’s Electric Car Grant.

Mike Hawes, chief executive of the SMMT, said: “August was the best month yet this year for EV market share.” With 35 models now eligible for grants of £1,500 or more, customer interest has soared by 80%. Plug-in hybrids grew fastest, while hybrids slipped back, showing a clear tilt towards full electrification.
Private adoption remains slower, with upfront costs still a hurdle. Yet with £650 million ringfenced until 2029, plus van and truck grants in place, the shift is set to accelerate. For the Play It Green community, this is proof that policy support, consumer demand, and industry momentum can combine to reshape transport.
National Geographic and PepsiCo Back Regenerative Agriculture
Feeding 10 billion people by 2050 without exhausting the planet is a major challenge. Enter “Food for Tomorrow”, a partnership between the National Geographic Society and PepsiCo designed to spotlight regenerative agriculture. This approach restores soil, supports biodiversity, and helps farmers withstand climate shocks.
The programme funds storytelling, explorer-led science projects, and even a dynamic mapping tool to show how regenerative farming strengthens food resilience. PepsiCo aims to spread these practices across 10 million acres by 2030. Jill Tiefenthaler, CEO of the National Geographic Society, said: “Our future will be shaped by how we grow our food today.”
Grants will support innovators worldwide, while short films bring farmers’ stories to life. Applications are open until the end of September, offering a chance for bold ideas to scale. For Play It Green members, this collaboration is a reminder that systemic change often begins in the soil beneath our feet, where small shifts can create lasting impact.
Hyundai Partners on Sustainable Leather Alternatives
Hyundai CRADLE has teamed up with UNCAGED Innovations to develop a plant-based alternative to leather for car interiors. Unlike conventional hides, this grain-based biomaterial cuts greenhouse gases by 95%, water use by 89%, and energy demand by 71%.

Brendon Kim of Hyundai CRADLE said the innovation “aligns perfectly with our sustainability strategy of high bio content and minimal chemical use.” The material uses grain proteins fused with plant elements to mimic collagen, the structure that gives leather its strength. Coffee bean shells provide natural dyes, reducing reliance on chemical processes.
Automotive interiors face some of the toughest performance demands. By proving sustainable materials can match durability and luxury, Hyundai and UNCAGED are pushing the sector forward. This breakthrough shows how innovation can bring environmental responsibility and quality together, with potential applications far beyond vehicles.
