JOGLE: Introduction

JOGLE is much more than a 900-mile relay from John O’Groats to Land’s End. It’s a nationwide challenge that brings communities together, celebrates the hospitality industry and raises vital funds for the Licensed Trade Charity (LTC), helping ensure the people behind our licensed hospitality community receive support when they need it most.

At Play It Green, we’re proud to support the Licensed Trade Charity as our hospitality charity partner. Through our Climate Impact Hospitality initiative, we believe businesses can make a positive difference not only for the planet, but for the people who make this incredible industry what it is.

More Than a Relay

Taking place over 30 days, the LTC JOGLE Pub Run will see a team of ultra-runners cover 900 miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End. Running up to 37 miles each day, they’ll pass the baton from community to community, creating a nationwide movement that shines a light on wellbeing, resilience and the power of people coming together for a common cause.

However, JOGLE isn’t just about those taking on the full challenge. Hospitality businesses, local communities and supporters can all play a part. Whether that’s joining one of the organised Community Days, taking on the virtual challenge through Strava, volunteering, fundraising or simply cheering the runners along the route, everyone has the opportunity to get involved.

Every mile completed and every pound raised helps the Licensed Trade Charity continue supporting people working across the licensed hospitality sector.

Supporting the People Behind Hospitality

Hospitality is built on people.

It’s an industry full of passion, resilience and hard work, but it’s also one where life’s challenges don’t stop when a shift ends. Financial pressures, health concerns, family difficulties and unexpected changes can affect anyone.

Every handover represents more than the next mile. Throughout JOGLE, runners are passing the baton from community to community, symbolising the support, teamwork and resilience that have always been at the heart of hospitality.
JOGLE – Every handover represents more than the next mile. Throughout JOGLE, runners are passing the baton between communities, symbolising the support, teamwork and resilience at the heart of hospitality.

For more than 200 years, the Licensed Trade Charity has been there to help. The charity provides practical advice, wellbeing support and financial assistance to people working in the licensed hospitality community, helping individuals and families navigate difficult times with confidence and dignity.

While many people may never need its services themselves, knowing that support exists for colleagues, friends and fellow hospitality professionals makes the industry stronger as a whole.

That’s why JOGLE is so important. It raises funds, increases awareness and reminds us that hospitality has always been at its best when people look after one another.

Why We’re Proud to Support the LTC

At Play It Green, sustainability has always been about creating positive impact.

That means helping businesses reduce their environmental impact, repair nature and give something meaningful back to society. It’s why every one of our partnerships includes a charitable element, and why we were delighted to choose the Licensed Trade Charity as our dedicated hospitality charity partner.

JOGLE - Behind every pub, restaurant, bar and hotel are people whose passion and hard work keep hospitality moving. The Licensed Trade Charity exists to support those people when they need it most.

Through Climate Impact Hospitality, restaurants, pubs, bars and hotels can offer customers the opportunity to make a small optional Climate Impact contribution with their bill. Those contributions help fund verified nature repair projects while also supporting the Licensed Trade Charity, with 10% helping fund the charity’s work across the hospitality industry.

It’s a simple way for businesses to demonstrate that sustainability isn’t only about the environment. It’s also about supporting the people behind the industry, strengthening local communities and creating a positive impact that extends well beyond the table.

For us, that’s what responsible business should look like.

How You Can Support JOGLE

There are plenty of ways to become part of the journey.

You can join the Strava Club, take part in the Strava Challenge from anywhere in the country, support one of the Community Days, volunteer, fundraise or make a donation. Every contribution helps the Licensed Trade Charity continue providing practical advice, wellbeing support and financial assistance to people working throughout the licensed hospitality community.

Community Days are taking place in:

  • Edinburgh with Star Pubs, 21 July
  • Shrewsbury with Punch Pubs & Co, 30 July
  • Gloucester with Lucky Saint, 2 August
  • North Somerset with Thatcher’s Cider, 5 August

Whether you run, walk, volunteer, donate or simply spread the word, every action helps.

JOGLE is about much more than reaching Land’s End. It’s about bringing people together, celebrating the hospitality community and ensuring that those who dedicate their careers to looking after others know that, when they need support, their industry is there for them too.

JOGLE: Wrap-Up

If you can support the challenge in any way, we’d encourage you to do it. Every donation, every mile and every conversation helps raise awareness of a charity that has been quietly supporting hospitality for more than 200 years.
