A Message from Our Founder
Welcome to our summary nature repair report 2025.
This year has been a landmark for all of us at Play It Green. We began with a simple idea. Help people reduce their footprints, repair the planet and regive to good causes. I never imagined that idea growing into a community capable of restoring one million plants and improving lives around the world.
What stays with me is the human impact. Women in Senegal earning steady income through agroforestry. Coastal families in Kenya watching fish return to restored mangroves. Indigenous communities in Canada rebuilding kelp forests that carry deep cultural meaning. These outcomes exist because our community chose action over worry and hope over despair.
We strengthened transparency through new monitoring tools, created thousands of hours of paid work and helped reduce food scarcity in communities that need it most. In 2026, we aim to restore another one million plants. Thank you for being part of this journey. I cannot wait to see what we achieve together.

Nature Repair Report 2025: A Year of Global Nature Repair
In 2025, the Play It Green community restored more than 300,000 plants, taking us past the milestone of one million in total. Our partner veritree played a central role by providing verified data, community connections and ground level monitoring across all sites. Their technology gives us clear insight into survival rates, biodiversity recovery and social outcomes, building the transparent approach highlighted in earlier reports.
Our three core projects continued to show how nature repair supports people as much as ecosystems.
Senegal: Agroforestry That Lifts Communities
In Senegal, agroforestry has become a practical solution to land degradation and food scarcity. Earlier updates described how decades of monocropping left families struggling with declining soil and unpredictable harvests. This year, thousands of fruit and hardwood trees were planted through veritree’s supported network of nurseries and community growers.
These trees anchor soil, restore nutrients and create natural shade that improves crop survival. Families gain access to fruit for food and income. Women lead many nurseries and planting teams, creating reliable work in regions with limited economic opportunity. As harvests stabilise, food security improves, and communities become less vulnerable to climate shocks.
Agroforestry in Senegal is now one of the clearest examples of nature repair, creating long-term social and environmental wins.
Kenya: Mangrove Restoration and Coastal Resilience
Along the Kenyan coast, mangrove restoration continued at pace. Mangroves store large amounts of carbon, protect shorelines from erosion and support fisheries that many families rely on. Earlier reports showed how damaged estuaries weakened food security and livelihoods. This year, more than 100,000 mangroves were planted through community teams supported by veritree.
The restored estuaries attract marine life and support healthier fish stocks, improving access to reliable protein for local families. Women lead many planting groups, creating steady income that strengthens household resilience. These outcomes are monitored through verified data, helping us understand long term survival and ecological recovery.
The success in Kenya has informed our expansion into Tanzania in 2026, where degraded estuaries present a major opportunity for community driven restoration.
Canada: Rebuilding Kelp Forests with Indigenous Leadership
On the Sunshine Coast of Canada, our partnership with Indigenous communities and veritree continued to restore kelp forests. Kelp supports biodiversity, improves water quality and absorbs carbon quickly. Earlier reports highlight the scale of global kelp decline and the urgent need for restoration.
This year, millions of bull kelp and sugar kelp sporophytes were seeded across lines and green gravel. The project strengthens cultural ties to the ocean and provides meaningful, long term stewardship roles for Indigenous groups. Verified monitoring tracks growth, biodiversity changes and seasonal variation, giving us clear evidence of recovery.
This remains one of our most valued collaborations, showing how local leadership lifts both ecological and cultural outcomes.
Nature Repair Report 2025: Technology and Transparency
Transparency is central to our work. veritree’s monitoring platform supports every planting activity, with data verified through satellite imagery, GIS mapping and blockchain publishing, providing complete transparency. In 2025, bioacoustic monitoring joined our toolkit, allowing us to track species returning to restored habitats through sound.
These tools give members confidence that their support creates real, measurable change.
Nature Repair Report 2025: Looking Ahead
This year has shown what is possible when communities and technology work together. One million plants restored. Thousands of hours of employment created. Food security strengthened. Ecosystems recovering. A clear pathway to expand our work into Tanzania and beyond.
