At Play It Green, our members help support verified nature repair across land, coast and sea. That includes agroforestry in Senegal, mangrove restoration across Kenya and Tanzania, and Indigenous-led sea kelp restoration in Canada. Each ecosystem has a different role, but they share one clear purpose: repairing nature in a way that supports people, too.
This month, we are focusing on the proof behind the progress. Not vague green claims, not shiny language, and not numbers without context. Real nature repair needs evidence, monitoring and honesty, which is why verified impact matters so much to the Play It Green community.

Agroforestry in Senegal
To start our Nature Repair Report May 2026, we head to Senegal, where Play It Green supports agroforestry that helps restore degraded land and strengthen local food systems. The project works with farming communities to reintroduce trees into working landscapes, improving soil health, supporting biodiversity and creating more resilient land for the future.
This is important because agroforestry is widely recognised as a practical way to support farmers and ecosystems together. The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation says well-designed agroforestry can contribute to better production, better nutrition, a better environment and better lives for people. Other research also highlights how agroforestry can improve soil fertility, support biodiversity and help strengthen food security.
For the Play It Green community, the Senegal project reflects the wider goal of nature repair across land, coast and sea. The work supports environmental recovery in a way that is closely connected to people, livelihoods and long-term community stability rather than treating restoration as something separate from everyday life.
Mangroves in Kenya and Tanzania
Across coastal regions in Kenya and Tanzania, Play It Green supports mangrove restoration that helps repair ecosystems where land and sea meet. Mangroves provide habitat for young fish, support marine biodiversity and help protect coastlines from erosion and storm damage. They are one of the most important coastal ecosystems in the world, yet large areas have been lost through development, pollution and environmental pressure.
Coastal communities often rely on healthy mangrove ecosystems for food, income and protection. When mangroves disappear, fisheries decline, biodiversity suffers and coastlines become more exposed to flooding and erosion. The loss of mangroves can affect both marine ecosystems and the people whose livelihoods depend on them.
The Global Mangrove Alliance reports that mangroves can store large amounts of carbon, support thousands of species and protect millions of people from coastal hazards. Restoring them helps rebuild natural coastal protection while supporting the habitats and communities that depend on healthier shorelines.
Sea Kelp in Canada
Finally, in our Nature Repair Report May 2026, we head to Canada, where Play It Green supports Indigenous-led sea kelp restoration on the Pacific coast with the Sechelt First Nation. Kelp forests are underwater habitats that support marine biodiversity, including fish, invertebrates and wider ocean life.
Kelp also carries cultural value for Indigenous communities, which makes this work especially important. Restoring kelp is not only about marine ecosystems, but it is also about respecting knowledge, place and long-standing relationships with the ocean.
Globally, kelp forests have declined sharply, so supporting restoration helps protect an ecosystem many people rarely see but deeply rely on. This is why land, coast and sea all matter in Play It Green’s nature repair work.
How We Verify Impact
The Nature Repair Report May 2026 also focuses on verification because trust depends on proof. Through our restoration partners, projects are tracked using tools such as satellite imagery, GIS mapping, ground-level monitoring and blockchain-backed reporting.
That means members can see where their support goes and how the impact is being recorded. It also helps reduce greenwashing risk by making claims more specific, measured and transparent.
