OBO: Introduction

We’re pleased to welcome OBO to the Play It Green community.

OBO is a global workplace consultancy with a wealth of experience connecting people, culture and thoughtful design. Its team works with organisations and innovative brands to create workplaces that feel good, work well and support the people using them.

The business brings together workplace consultancy, brand representation, showroom curation and carefully chosen products. Its approach looks beyond appearance, with close attention to material choice, product life cycles, circularity and what happens at the end of a product’s use.

That thinking fits closely with Play It Green as both businesses believe better choices should create lasting value for people, the planet and society. Through our new partnership, OBO will tie nature repair into its projects through Play It Green, and 10% of all revenue will go to support the Marie Curie charity.

We recently caught up with Andy Green, Head of Strategic Partnerships at OBO, to learn more about the business, its values and what comes next.

Please tell us a little about OBO and what you do.

Obo’s purpose is to support humanity within the workplace. Both directly, creating optimal, balanced environments that support the best workplace practices and indirectly by delivering in a way that minimises our negative environmental impacts, enhances the positive and delivers social value across the communities we interact with.

My role is focussed very much on circularity, delivering stunning products from materials previously seen as waste and products that can be constantly reused, repurposed and reimagined.

Why is sustainability important to OBO and the way you work?

Sustainability has to be the starting point for any business that wants a long-term future and a seat at tomorrow’s table. We have no choice but to acknowledge the world in which we find ourselves and do what we can to make things a little better.

If we all take this view, we can see a brighter future for the generations to come after us.

Why did OBO decide to partner with Play It Green?

Play It Green’s offer really spoke to me; with my background in certification and verification services, I am naturally sceptical of many similar claims that cannot provide independent proof of the claimed impacts.

Alongside this, the fact that we can very easily support local communities across the world reflects our view that we all share one planet and the similarities between the global population far outweigh any perceived differences.

What does the future hold for OBO?

We are excited about the future of our circularity offering, which we are actively looking to grow.

We are also determined to offer our clients a genuine opportunity to do things better whilst understanding that, for sustainability to become mainstream, it cannot be seen as an ‘upcharge ’, and indeed we believe that the concept of paying more for a sustainable product is an anathema.

OBO has spent almost a decade connecting people, culture and thoughtful design. I love the way they work with innovative brands and look beyond the immediate use of a product, with a clear focus on circularity, material choice and what happens at the end of its life.
