St Ann’s Hospice x Play It Green: New Giving Partner

St Ann’s Hospice x Play It Green

In our latest fantastic news, Play It Green is proud to welcome St Ann’s Hospice as our latest giving partner. Now, all our members have the opportunity to regive their 10% to this amazing, Manchester based charity.

Not only that, but as a giving partner, we will provide St Ann’s Hospice with our education and Net Zero support for free.

St Ann’s Hospice helps people from across Greater Manchester who are over the age of 18 and affected by life-limiting illnesses, and they support their loved ones and carers too.

We recently caught up with their Capital Partnerships Fundraiser, Liz Greenwood to find out more about this fantastic charity and what the future holds for the Hospice.

Please, tell us a little about St Ann’s Hospice

We are a charity, and we support patients right across Greater Manchester. This is done from our two hospice sites in Heald Green, Stockport and Little Hulton, Salford. As well as this we have dedicated Hospice@Home and specialist community teams who care for people in a place they call home.

The support we provide is based around the individual needs of the person and what is important to them. Some people are referred to us for care right at the end of their lives, perhaps after a hospital stay. Whilst for others, we help by managing their symptoms so they can continue to live as full a life as possible. We have patients who receive outpatient support from us too.

On top of that, we provide emotional support – helping people come to terms with the results of their diagnosis. Not only that, but we support families including after the death of their loved one.

By supporting people to have as good a death as possible, we help the grieving process. It can be a source of comfort to know that your loved one was well cared for and that their symptoms were well managed at the end of their lives.

Why is sustainability important to you?

Sustainability is something which is incredibly important not only to ourselves but to our partners as well. We’re committed to moving our organisation to more sustainable practices through reviewing and developing our working environments. Projects in this area include the development of a new hospice facility,  efficiency projects across our current estate and changing behaviours.  It’s great to have Play it Green’s insight and knowledge to help us on our journey.

We have been caring for the people in our community for over 50 years. With that in mind, it is really important to us that we are here for many more generations to come – looking after our patients and their loved ones. We can only do this if we continue to innovate, remain relevant and modern and move with the times. This is why we are always looking for ways to improve our sustainability and be as green as possible.

Why did you decide to collaborate with Play It Green?

Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. You cannot be effective and you certainly cannot be pioneering without it. It is key to everything we do as an organisation. From collaboration with charity partners and those who support our charity to those that we provide care alongside. One of our values at the hospice is “Together we are Stronger” and we live by this value every day. We recognise that we have a bigger impact working with others than we could ever have on our own.

Play It Green was introduced to us by our charity partner Manchester Central who nominated us as their regiving partner.  Since then, we’ve been really excited to see the work Play it Green are doing in the sustainability space and collaboration just made sense.

This a really powerful way to raise funds for the charity. Not only that, but collaborating with Play It Green opens up lots of opportunities for us to learn and share as we develop our own approach on our sustainability journey. Equally importantly, it enables us to support the businesses and charity partners we work with in achieving their CSR & ESG goals.

What does the future hold for St Ann's Hospice?

The future is looking very exciting! For over 50 years, St Ann’s Hospice has been supporting patients and their families from across Greater Manchester. We don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.  As an organisation, we will continue to collaborate, improve and provide the best care that our patients and their families deserve.

We only receive a third of our funding from the NHS so fundraising continues to play a big role in our future. We need to raise around £20,000 per day to enable us to continue providing our amazing services to our patients, families and carers.  Thank you in advance to everyone at Play it Green for your support!

We have plans for improvements to our Little Hulton hospice. After phase 1 of redevelopment in recent years, we are now really looking forward to the next phase. At our Heald Green site, we urgently need to replace our current building.  Through our The Build It Together campaign we hope to raise the final £2 million needed to build this much-needed new hospice.

The new hospice is more than bricks and mortar, it is about our patients and their loved ones and we can’t wait to see it take shape!
