The Positive Career Coach: Introduction

We are very happy to welcome The Positive Career Coach, founded by Andy Nelson, to the Play It Green community. Andy supports mid-career professionals who to pivot into planet positive work without starting again. His approach blends behavioural psychology, design thinking and years of leadership experience to help people move forward with clarity and confidence.

By pledging 1 percent of business turnover to Play It Green, Andy is giving long term support to nature repair and social impact. His positive impact will grow each month through a mix of trees, mangroves and sea kelp. He will receive weekly sustainability education to support lower footprints at work and home. Plus, Ten percent of the revenue he gives will be passed to the WWF, creating further positive outcomes.

We caught up with Andy recently to learn more about his work, his values and what lies ahead for The Positive Career Coach.

Please tell us a little about The Positive Career Coach and what you do.

At The Positive Career Coach, I help mid-career professionals who want to contribute more to the world but aren’t sure how to begin. Most of the people I support have spent years in corporate roles and feel pulled towards climate or sustainability work. My job is to help them make that shift in a way that honours their experience, they don’t need to start again, they simply need a clearer path.

I use behavioural science, design thinking, and structured coaching to help people define their criteria, generate ideas, build credibility, and take action. The goal is simple: move from overwhelm to momentum and into work that feels meaningful.

Why is sustainability important to you and your work?

For me, sustainability isn’t a separate topic, it’s the backdrop to every major decision we make. Becoming a parent sharpened that sense of responsibility. You look at your children and suddenly the world they grow up in becomes much more personal.

In my coaching, sustainability shows up in two ways. First, many clients are motivated by a desire to contribute to the planet. Second, the way we work needs to be sustainable too. Burnout doesn’t create impact. So I focus on helping people find roles that are good for the planet and good for them.

Why did you decide to collaborate with Play It Green?

I loved the simplicity and transparency of the model. One percent of turnover is easy to commit to, easy to track, and grows naturally as the business grows. The education element matters to me as well, positive change isn’t just about planting things; it’s about learning and adjusting how we live and work.

Partnering with Play It Green felt like a natural extension of my mission: helping people create meaningful careers and making sure my own business has a positive footprint.

What does the future hold for The Positive Career Coach?

The next few years are about growth and scale, in a thoughtful way. I’m expanding the cohort programme, creating more accessible self-paced resources, and collaborating with other impact-focused organisations. The demand for climate-aligned careers is rising quickly, and I want to meet people where they are, whether that’s with 1:1 coaching, group learning, or practical tools.

What won’t change is the focus: helping people move into work that feels useful, energising, and aligned with the future they want to help build.
