The Sustainable Events Company: Introduction

We’re buzzing to welcome The Sustainable Events Company, founded by the brilliant Jay Tyson, to the Play It Green community!  Based in Manchester, this award-winning event management agency doesn’t just create incredible corporate events, conferences, and exhibitions—they do it sustainably, proving that eco-friendly can still mean extraordinary.

Joining our Climate Positive Workforce initiative, Jay and his team are taking their commitment to the planet even further. With weekly sustainability education delivered directly to their inbox, they’re staying informed and inspired. Plus, for every team member, we’ll plant a mix of trees, mangroves, and sea kelp every month—helping to restore ecosystems and reduce their carbon footprint.

To amplify their impact, The Sustainable Events Company has chosen to support The Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity, with 10% of their subscription fees going to this vital cause. That’s what we call turning values into action!

We caught up with Jay Tyson to hear more about The Sustainable Events Company’s journey, their passion for sustainability, and what the future holds for this trailblazing team. Spoiler alert: it involves a lot of green thinking, creative event solutions, and a sprinkle of Mancunian charm.

Welcome aboard, Jay and team! Together, we’re proving that sustainable events aren’t just a nice-to-have—they’re the way forward.

Please, tell us a little about The Sustainable Events Company

We evolved out of a regular event management company and we’re a bunch of old event and exhibition directors who just wanted to do things better.

We work with clients from the US to Hong Kong, and companies like The London Marathon here in the UK – either on their conferences, exhibitions or their exhibition stands.

Success to us is reducing the carbon footprint and impact of an event as much as possible without fundamentally changing the essence of the event.

Why is sustainability important to The Sustainable Events Company?

I grew up in the 90s when the events industry was incredibly wasteful – skips and skips of perfectly reusable materials were lined up after every event. At that time it wasn’t frowned upon but it just felt wrong and I became as sustainable as I could without being aware that was what I was doing.

The events industry has the power to impact millions of people in a positive way. It doesn’t need to negatively impact the planet to do so.

Why did  The Sustainable Events Company decide to collaborate with Play It Green?

Being sustainable isn’t all about the quantifiable; it’s just doing the right thing and working with/helping out the good guys. Your work with carbon reduction, education and charities just ticked a lot boxes for us all and it was an obvious choice for us to allocate some of the revenue we give to good causes to you.

What does the future hold for  The Sustainable Events Company?

Continuing to improve our service, decrease our impact and expand our client list so that those two things have more of an impact.
