Koba : Introduction
Great news, Koba has joined Play It Green!
Koba is transforming the way businesses think about office space by putting sustainability at the core of their flexible workspace offering. Their premium office spaces are designed and operated to reduce environmental impact through smart energy use and eco-friendly materials, creating workspaces that are not only efficient but genuinely green.
Their first location in Manchester has already opened, with their first London office opening late Q3 and other UK cities on the horizon. What sets them apart is their commitment to making climate action effortless for their residents.
Now their team are part of the Play It Green Climate Positive Workforce. Even better, every company taking an office with Koba automatically receives a Play It Green subscription. This means ongoing weekly sustainability education and support, planting of trees, mangroves, and sea kelp to rebalance their carbon footprint, and it doesn’t stop there!
To make the partnership even more impactful, 10% of all revenue generated through this partnership is regiven to The Trussell Trust! Weaving even more social impact into their business culture.
We recently caught up with James Thorne, Finance Director at Koba, to learn more about their sustainable vision and what the future holds for greener workplaces.

Please tell us a little about Koba and what they do.
Koba is a premium flexible workspace operator with a clear focus on building and operating sustainably designed workspace for teams ranging from 2 up to 200. Hospitality, health and wellbeing is core to our offering – we were the world’s first WELL certified flexible workspace.
Our sites are sustainably designed – we buy repurposed furniture, we have demountable walls between office suites to allow flexibility and reduce waste and we use recycled and recyclable carpet.
Our first office opened in Manchester in December to great reviews and we’re excited to open our first London workspace later this summer. We love to work with similarly minded organisations so if you’re looking for office space in either city then please do get in touch!

Why did Koba decide to collaborate with Play It Green?
Play It Green’s ethos is well aligned with ours – we want to do something that makes a meaningful impact to both the environment and our local communities. Play It Green does this in a very tangible and positive way by employing and engaging indigenous populations to plant trees.
Why is sustainability important to Koba?
Sustainability is the whole reason our business was created and it is the basis of our manifesto. We’re very aware that office fit-outs have a significant carbon footprint and through adoption of circular principals in our fit-out and our evidence based, transparent approach we want to reduce this both in our space and in the wider flexible workspace industry. We won’t always get everything right, and we can always improve, but we believe that adopting this approach is the right thing to do.
We partner with mission aligned suppliers across the business – from our office fit-out and furniture, to our coffee provider, our cleaning company, to our network provider…all have a clear focus on sustainability.
What does the future hold for Koba?
I’m very excited about our future – we have big plans for sustained, sustainable growth of our portfolio through the opening of new offices in core UK cities. In both Manchester and London we have great landlord partners that share our passion for sustainable, premium workspace, and we continue to speak to more landlords that share this approach.
We will continue to work with like-minded suppliers and will continue to champion new approaches to sustainability in the fit-out and operation of our workspace.
