These initiatives are powerful demonstrations of how collaboration, innovation, and investment can reshape our planet’s future. Let’s dive into the highlights and celebrate the people and organisations making it happen!

Octopus Energy Powers Agrivoltaics in France
Octopus Energy has taken a giant leap in renewable energy by acquiring OX2 France, an agrivoltaics pioneer that combines solar energy with agriculture. This innovative approach maximises land use while enhancing biodiversity—a true win-win. With 21 solar projects in the pipeline, this deal aims to deliver close to 500 MW of solar capacity by 2031, doubling the current levels.

Part of Octopus’ €1 billion clean energy investment in France, the acquisition ensures sustainable growth while addressing energy needs and biodiversity challenges. CEO Zoisa North-Bond called France a “shining market,” and this partnership is set to redefine how solar power integrates with agriculture.
By integrating solar energy with agriculture, Octopus Energy’s agrivoltaics not only supply clean power but also support biodiversity and sustainable farming. This innovative approach sets a blueprint for other regions to tackle energy and environmental challenges simultaneously, proving that renewable energy can nourish both communities and ecosystems.
Ingka Investments Supercharges Recycling Efforts
IKEA’s investment arm, Ingka Investments, is making waves with a €1 billion initiative to expand recycling infrastructure globally. Their Circular Investments programme has already recycled 2.7 million tonnes of materials, avoiding 9.4 million tonnes of CO2e. By transforming waste into valuable secondary raw materials, IKEA is reducing dependency on virgin resources and paving the way for a circular economy.

Key projects include RetourMatras, which recycles mattresses into foam alternatives, and Morssinkhof Rymoplast, which has doubled its plastic recycling capacity to over 500,000 tonnes annually. IKEA is also backing innovative technologies like Next Generation Group, which develops cutting-edge solutions for organic waste and plastic recycling.
IKEA’s circular investments are more than just a win for the environment—they’re reshaping industries to treat waste as an opportunity rather than a problem. By creating scalable recycling systems, they’re helping pave the way for a future where materials flow endlessly through a truly circular economy.

Amazon’s Fleet Goes Electric in the UK
Amazon has announced its largest order of electric heavy goods vehicles (eHGVs) in the UK, with 148 trucks set to hit the roads over the next 18 months. The fleet includes Volvo FM Battery Electric trucks and Mercedes-Benz eActros 600s, with ranges of up to 500 km. These vehicles will revolutionise Amazon’s transportation network, moving more than 300 million packages annually with zero exhaust emissions.

Supported by the UK Government’s Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator programme, Amazon is also investing in advanced charging infrastructure. The 360 kW chargers will allow these vehicles to go from 20% to 80% power in just over an hour, ensuring seamless operations.
Amazon’s investment in electric logistics demonstrates that even the most complex global operations can adapt for sustainability. This shift not only reduces emissions but also underscores the role of large companies in driving the transition toward a greener, more efficient transport sector.
