We’re excited to welcome Birdie Sports, a FIFA-licensed football agency, to the Play It Green community!
Founded by Niklas Vogeler, Birdie Sports supports footballers with every aspect of their career, from contracts and endorsements to mental wellbeing and financial planning. Their mission is to give athletes the space and support they need to thrive on and off the pitch.
Now they’re stepping up their commitment to people and planet. By joining our Climate Impact Workforce, Birdie Sports will receive weekly sustainability education while we plant trees, mangroves, and sea kelp each month on their behalf.
They’ve chosen to support Mind, the mental health charity, which fits perfectly with their values. And there’s more to come. We’re exploring how footballers can become advocates for sustainability and help drive greener choices across the sporting world.
We caught up with Niklas to hear more about Birdie Sports and their plans for the future.
Please, tell us a little about Birdie Sports.
We’re a boutique sports agency focusing on football players and their wellbeing all around their lives. While also operating as licensed agents, we offer an all-around service, including their relationship with social media, mental wellbeing, as well as the “basics” like nutrition and physiotherapy. While doing all that, we want to be like a best friend for the player, not just the agent making money once every two years.
Why is sustainability important to Birdie Sports?
Sustainability plays an ever-important role in today’s business (and personal) environment, and we want to take that to the sports industry. We feel like the football world has yet to embark on this journey, which so many other industries have already taken their first steps towards. In the end – without sounding overly dystopian – there won’t be any football without a healthy planet.
Why did Birdie Sports choose to join Play It Green?
From the first conversation, we felt that Play It Green knew what they were doing – and also, Richard is a pretty good person to talk to. We immediately felt taken care of and the whole process of signing up and getting to know their work was so easy, that it would have been a wasted opportunity not to join.
What’s next for Birdie Sports?
That’s a big one. A lot is coming up, the most important thing is always finding players who are as good a fit to us as we are to them. That keeps our business going. Furthermore, as I said before, we want to bring sustainability into professional football and raise awareness about the topic. Now, with footballers being role models for everyone, often children, it is important that they take responsibility for that and show the world that they care about the environment.
