We had the opportunity to chat with Roger Knight, the visionary behind AttractMore. His insights into creating low-footprint, sustainable websites not only inspire but also challenge the norms of the tech industry. His company is setting new benchmarks for environmental responsibility.
Please, tell us a little about AttractMore
AttractMore is a creative web agency founded in 2006 by me, Roger Knight. I work with several other specialists to create our search engine-optimised, low-carbon websites, bringing together the specific skills needed for each project.
Our small team works closely with clients to create websites that drive results. We pride ourselves on working with integrity, trust, respect, sustainability and determination to help our clients succeed. We are proud to be accredited by the Good Business Charter which underpins our commitment to ethical business practice.
What’s happening now that’s exciting for Attractmore?
Part of my role is to make people aware of the climate impact of the internet in general and of websites in particular. When I first started talking to people about this, most people were surprised to learn that browsing the internet creates greenhouse gases.
What I find exciting is that more people now seem to be aware of the climate impact of the internet and are interested in minimising that impact.
Why did AttractMore decide to collaborate with Play It Green?
The principal aim of AttractMore is to develop effective websites that use the lowest amount of power and so create the smallest amount of greenhouse gases. I am conscious that the sites we create and running the business generally still consume power and I wanted to make sure I effectively compensated for that.
I met Richard Dickson through a mutual contact and I was impressed with what Play It Green has achieved and with their Reduce, Repair, Regive approach. It was immediately apparent to me that this was a hugely worthwhile initiative. Furthermore, I felt that this was the organisation I wanted to team up with. It helps me make my contribution to offsetting the environmental impact of my business.
What does the future hold for AttractMore?
I’m keen to work with more businesses that want to reduce the carbon emissions of their websites and, with greater awareness, there is more interest. This allows me the opportunity to make a bigger difference.
We have a good deal of experience in this area now but we’re always looking for extra things we can do to limit carbon emissions from websites.
I’d love to see Google and other search engines make low carbon emissions a factor in how websites rank in the search engine results. If that were to happen, I’m sure we’d see many more web agencies taking steps to learn about sustainable web design and we make the internet a lot greener than it is today.
