Co-Op Launches their ‘Future Farming Fund’

Co-op and British farmers have teamed up to enhance sustainability on Britain’s farms. The new ‘Future Farming Fund’, launched on 10 July 2024, aims to promote innovation and tackle environmental challenges. Fantastically, projects under this fund, beginning in August, will be spearheaded by Co-op’s Beef and Lamb Farming Group.

Key areas of focus include soil health, biodiversity, and alternative forage crops, alongside initiatives in genetics and data management. The fund’s creation is based on feedback from farmers, ensuring it addresses their most pressing needs.

Joseph Keating, Co-op’s Agriculture Manager, emphasised the importance of supporting British agriculture, stating: “Our new Future Farming Fund has been shaped by what our farmers have told us, and we’re thrilled so many are already engaged with the different projects on offer.”

Furthermore, the fund is part of Co-op’s broader strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040. Resources and financial aid are provided through Co-op and Dunbia, their supplier partner. Claire Martin, Dunbia Agriculture Account Manager, expressed delight in supporting this initiative, which aims to boost innovation and reduce emissions on farms.

Pandora’s Net Zero Target Validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative

Pandora’s journey towards sustainability has reached a significant milestone. On 11th July 2024, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validated Pandora’s target to become a net-zero business by 2040. Amazingly, this validation underscores Pandora’s commitment to decarbonise at a pace aligned with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C.

To achieve net-zero, Pandora aims to cut emissions by at least 90% across its entire value chain and balance out residual emissions with permanent carbon removal. Furthermore, this follows SBTi’s 2021 validation of Pandora’s target to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Mads Twomey-Madsen, Pandora’s Senior Vice President of Global Communications and Sustainability, emphasised the urgency of climate action and encouraged partners to join in making a sustainable future a reality.

“By aligning our net-zero target with the SBTi, we confirm our commitment to reduce our carbon footprint significantly,” said Twomey-Madsen. By 2023, Pandora had already achieved a 27% reduction in emissions compared to 2019, primarily by sourcing 100% renewable energy for crafting facilities and using recycled silver and gold.

JLR and Pirelli to Roll Out FSC-Certified Natural Rubber Tyres

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has partnered with tyre manufacturer Pirelli to use FSC-certified natural rubber tyres across its luxury vehicle range. The initiative will debut on the new Range Rover Electric, with JLR committing to over 250,000 FSC-certified tyres annually.

This collaboration promotes sustainable tyre production, supporting forest preservation and sustainable development. Amazingly, JLR now ensures that the natural rubber in its tyres is traceable through every processing stage to its origin.

The FSC certification verifies that certified material is separated from non-certified material throughout the supply chain, confirming it is sustainably farmed. Andrea Debbane, JLR’s Sustainability Director, stated, “By choosing Pirelli’s FSC-certified tyres, we’re offering high-quality, high-performance tyres while supporting responsible forest management and protecting communities in our rubber supply chain.”

Pirelli’s Head of Sustainability & New Mobility, Matteo Battaïni, praised the partnership, noting that FSC certification ensures forests are managed to preserve biodiversity and benefit local communities.
