Earth Day: Celebrating and Protecting the Planet
Earth Day, celebrated on April 22nd each year, is a global event that began in 1970 to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable practices. It was the brainchild of Senator Gaylord Nelson, who wanted to create a day when people could come together to focus on environmental issues and create positive change.
Earth Day has since grown into a global event with more than a billion people from over 190 countries participating in various ways. It’s a time to reflect on our impact on the planet and take action to protect it for future generations. Earth Day is important because it reminds us of our responsibility to care for the planet and encourages us to make positive changes in our daily lives.
In recognition of the growing importance of environmental issues, Earth Day has evolved into Earth Month, which takes place throughout April.
Why Earth Day and Earth Month are Important
Earth Month is important because it helps to remind us of our responsibility to care for the planet.
It’s an opportunity to educate ourselves and others about the environmental challenges we face, such as climate change, pollution, deforestation, and loss of biodiversity.
By raising awareness, we can inspire people to take action and make positive changes in their daily lives.
Planting Trees during Earth Month
One of the most effective ways to combat climate change and protect the environment is by planting trees.
Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen, making them natural air purifiers.
They also help to reduce the amount of heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which can lower the temperature of the planet.
Planting trees with Play It Green also has a social impact as our tree planting partner employs whole communities to plant, monitor and protect the trees we plant.
Not only that but 10% of every 50p given to plant a tree will be regiven to a local charity increasing the social impact of an already amazing action.
Why Plant Trees during Earth Month?
Planting trees during Earth Month is a great way to celebrate and honour the planet.
Trees are essential for the health and well-being of the earth, and planting them is a tangible way to make a positive impact.
Trees provide habitats for wildlife, prevent soil erosion, and improve air and water quality.
Planting trees is also a fun and rewarding activity that can be done with friends, family, or co-workers.
By taking part in Play It Green’s Earth Month tree planting campaign through your forest garden, you can plant trees and share the campaign link to engage others to do the same.

We can do this by reducing energy consumption, recycling, using public transport, and eating a plant-based diet.
By making small changes in our daily lives, we can reduce our impact on the environment and help to create a more sustainable future.
