Today, we’re excited to introduce grtfl (pronounced grateful) as a new member of our amazing community! grtfl is a trailblazing company that’s transforming the way we think about tipping. grtfl is at the forefront of the shift towards giving hospitality workers more transparency on their earnings. Their innovative approach simplifies and automates processes for businesses. Furthermore, they ensure team members are better engaged than ever before by providing them with 100% transparency on their earnings. With the new tipping legislation due to come into effect on the 1st of July, grtfl is working with hospitality operators to ensure they’re compliant.

Joining the Play It Green community, grtfl is making commendable strides in its sustainability journey. They are actively participating in our Climate Positive Workforce initiative, a step that reinforces their dedication to environmental stewardship. This involves educating their team in sustainability, planting trees for each employee, and supporting MNDA, showcasing their commitment to a greener future.

Furthermore, grtfl now has access to all our net zero support and partners along with access to our API to integrate planet repair and social impact into their platform!

We recently had the privilege of speaking with grtfl’s founder, Mason Potter, and gained some great insights into their innovative business model.

Please, tell us a little about the History and Values of grtfl

grtfl was born out of a desire for good service. Everywhere I went, the issue I found was not being able to show people how grateful I was for good service (hence the name). As we move into a cashless era, even though people are connected on their phones, we are more disconnected than ever. Because of this, it was important to find a way to better motivate and engage team members. 

I was becoming more and more frustrated that when I’d go to a restaurant, teams seemed so disengaged. There was a pattern appearing for me every time you asked them about their tips, their shoulders would ever so slightly slump. Sadly, the tone would lower when they replied with a non-descript answer suggesting they didn’t know what happened with their tips. Something had to change.

Selfishlessly, I thought, that if I could find a way to provide a better-motivated industry, customers (i.e., me) would get better service. Money talks and tips are such an important part of working in the service industry. It seemed so backwards that there was little to no communication, or transparency about this for teams.

Grtfl is all about being fanatical about customer service. We’re customer-obsessed and feedback-focused. We believe that working closely with those using the product and getting constant feedback on refinement will help the businesses to be ambitious in the pursuit of growth and building the best product possible.

What’s happening now that’s exciting?

Most importantly, the business (like most of the industry) is focusing on the upcoming legislation for the 1st of July. Ensuring we can give the best advice possible, and deal with the backlog of clients wanting to go live is our main priority.

However,  the team is growing, and we have some fantastic people working on, and in the business – all of which share the same values. We have brought in some outside expertise to help with higher-level ideas, growth and international expansion which is an exciting next step for the business later this year.

Why did you decide to collaborate with Play It Green?

Even though it’s important to focus on the here and now, and try to impact what’s within your immediate control and or an industry you’re working in; we believe it’s also important to focus on macro initiatives as well.

Being more sustainable, and contributing toward saving the planet is obviously important and we wanted to work with a partner that we trusted.  We wanted there to be maximum impact provided.  But have a partner that gave us a light-touch approach to being more sustainable. Play It Green was the perfect fit after shopping around.

What does the future hold for grtfl?

We have (very) big ambitions and we believe we’re going to get there by providing the best product possible. So, for the foreseeable, were hyper-focused on customer feedback from both frontline and management to ensure the product is getting better week on week.
