UK's First Ever Home Heating Employee Benefits Scheme Launches

In an innovative move to tackle rising energy bills and promote sustainability, the UK’s first-ever home heating employee benefits scheme has been launched. This pioneering scheme aims to help employees cut their energy bills by up to 50%. The initiative, introduced by a collaboration of forward-thinking companies, provides employees with the opportunity to upgrade their home heating systems to more energy-efficient models.

Furthermore, the scheme offers a range of benefits. These include interest-free loans and subsidies for purchasing and installing modern heating solutions like heat pumps and smart thermostats. This not only reduces energy consumption but also lowers carbon emissions. By making sustainable home heating more accessible, the scheme aims to alleviate financial stress on households. It also contributes to the UK’s net-zero goals.

Rebecca Owen, sustainability manager at OLIVER Agency believes that Heat Scheme will play a key role in helping to reduce its footprint. That’s because 17% of OLIVER’s 2023 UK carbon footprint coming from working from home emissions. She said: “To reach our net zero targets we need to offer solutions and support to help our people transition to renewable energy at home.”

Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, stated: “This partnership with BYD is a significant step in our commitment to becoming a zero-emission platform by 2040. By making EVs more accessible and affordable for our drivers, we are accelerating the shift towards sustainable transportation.”

PCAF Welcomes 500th Signatory as Demand for GHG Accounting Grows

The Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF) has reached a significant milestone, welcoming its 500th signatory. This growing coalition of financial institutions is committed to measuring and disclosing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Specifically, emissions associated with their lending and investment portfolios, driving transparency and accountability in the finance sector. Since its inception, PCAF has provided a standardised framework for financial institutions to assess and report their climate impact.

The increasing number of signatories reflects the rising demand for comprehensive GHG accounting. This is down to stakeholders seeking to understand and mitigate the environmental impact of financial activities.

Ivan Frishberg, Chief Sustainability Officer for Amalgamated Bank and PCAF President adds, “PCAF has reached 500 signatories through inclusive growth, ensuring that all types of financial institutions and regions are playing a role in growing a financial ecosystem for climate action.”

The PCAF framework helps institutions identify high-emission sectors within their portfolios and develop strategies to reduce their carbon footprint. This collective effort is essential for aligning financial flows with the goals of the Paris Agreement. It also supports the transition to a low-carbon economy.
