The LEGO Group, one of the world’s largest toy manufacturers, is embarking on a $1.4 billion journey towards a sustainable future. It has announced a commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050.

Collaborating with the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), the LEGO Group is dedicated to enhancing its sustainability. It will do this by reducing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. Recent announcements have set a target of slashing emissions by 37% by 2032, based on 2019 levels.

Niels Christiansen, CEO of the LEGO Group, emphasises, “Our immediate focus is meeting our 2032 carbon reduction goals, making strides in various initiatives. This long-term objective ensures our decisions today reduce our carbon footprint for generations to come.”

The path to a sustainable future involves significant investments over the next three years. This is to minimise environmental impact beyond its operations and supply chain.

Christiansen underscores the importance of children’s concerns about the environment. He say that “They hold us accountable, urging us to set ambitious goals and take meaningful actions to safeguard their futures.”
