Pilla x Play It Green: New Partnership

Pilla x Play It Green: Introduction

Today, we are thrilled to announce our partnership with Pilla, a free work management app designed for the hospitality, retail, and leisure sectors. Pilla, founded by Liam Jones, has integrated our net zero framework, empowering their customers to create effective sustainability plans.

Pilla helps businesses build operational playbooks, ensuring staff understand their roles through detailed shifts, checks, and workflows. They offer start-ready templates developed by industry experts, streamlining the implementation of best practices.

As part of our collaboration, Pilla will introduce their customers to the sustainability and social impact initiatives central to Play It Green. Not only does this partnership align our businesses, but it also amplifies our joint commitment to environmental stewardship in the hospitality industry.

We are also excited to invite you to the inaugural Hospitality Playbook Live Event at Australasia on May 15th. Our community members can enjoy discounted entry to this must-attend event, which includes interviews with three industry leaders. These leaders will provide invaluable insights and practical steps toward sustainability, showcasing our collaborative efforts with Pilla.

We recently caught up with founder, Liam Jones and his enthusiasm for sustainable practices and the future of Pilla was evident, reinforcing the significance of this partnership.

Please, tell us a little about the History and Values of Pilla

I’m a retail operator by trade, I spent a good chunk of my career learning to be a manager in these environments. So I know first-hand how hard it is to get staff to consistently do the things you need them to do.

There are several reasons which make it harder for hospitality and retail leaders. Things such as high staff turnover and a younger workforce, so I set about finding a solution.

The problem is one at scale, meaning almost every operator feels it, so our solution had to be delivered at scale too. The only way to do that is through technology. So we’ve spent the last two years building a work management app specifically for this sector.

The jobs to be done in this sector are really specific, so a solution only works if it directly addresses those things. That’s we only work with retail, leisure and hospitality – it’s built for them.

We’ve made the app free for all users as it’s needed so badly. We want to help as many businesses as possible level up their operation and we don’t want cost to be a barrier to that.

What’s happening now that’s exciting for Pilla?

We’re still in a launch phase so every day is exciting right now. After two years of building, we’ve just started to welcome our first users now so that’s really cool. I love connecting with new brands and helping them get the most out of their teams.

The feature I’m most excited about in Pilla is the gamification. Teams work together to clock in for shifts on time and finish checklists on time to build up the highest ‘hot streaks’ in the business. It keeps staff engaged and focussed on what matters to the business but in a fun way.

I’m really excited to see how we can develop this. Our aim is to make operations a game that people want to play!

Why did Pilla decide to collaborate with Play It Green?

I love what Richard and his team are doing. Sustainability is a huge topic which I know a lot of operators would love to engage with. Unfortunately, there are often barriers to entry such as cost and knowledge gaps. Because Play It Green handles all of this for the business, at no extra charge, it’s a no-brainer and the ideal solution.

I’m really looking forward to introducing it to our community.

What does the future hold for Pilla?

Our focus is on making operations as simple and efficient as we can, so we’re always looking for exciting ideas to make that happen. We’re working with some great partners at the moment to build a marketplace inside Pilla. This means our community of users can use the free core functionality inside Pilla to get more jobs done – watch this space.
