Play It Green – Now A Certified B Corp Business

What is a B Corp Business?

Certified B Corp businesses are for-profit companies that adhere to the highest standards of verifiable social and environmental performance. They are also assessed for public openness and legal accountability in order to strike a balance between profit and purpose. B Corp is a certification issued by the non-profit B Lab. Its process examines the company’s whole impact rather than just a product or service.

This certification differs from others in that it takes a holistic approach to business. It guarantees that B Corps emphasise the welfare of people and our planet. Furthermore, the certification is extremely strict, ensuring that its logo actually represents business for good.

Governance, Community, Environment and Customers are the four impact categories covered by the B Corp Certification. The resulting Impact Assessment is then validated through a series of external tests that necessitate evidence for the questions answered.

Play It Green – Now A Certified B Corp Business

We undertook B Corp Certification as part of our objective to be a Business for Good, which was formally achieved on 18th April 2023. As a business, we are really proud to be a part of a community that believes business can (and should) make a good difference.

We’re also proud to have been one of the highest-scoring new B Corp Businesses at the time of our certification. The score of 106.6 puts us in the top 10% of newly registered UK B Corp scores and is one we aim to improve on every year. This adds another level of commitment to people and planet. Not only that, but it is a great testament to our efforts to be ethical and environmentally friendly and to help others do the same.

As a relatively small team working every day to improve the world’s future, we are extremely proud of our amazing score. You can see our full B Corp listing here.

Governance and Community Business Impact Score

B Corp Business - Governance Score

The Governance effect Area assesses a company’s overall mission, social and environmental effect engagement, ethics, and transparency. As well as this it also assesses a company’s ability to protect its mission and formally consider stakeholders in decision making. This is measured via its corporate structure or corporate governance documents.

We’re happy to have a high Governance score. One that is over double the average first time score for businesses in our sector!

Our outstanding achievement in this area is due to Play It Green’s Business Model.  Our model is designed to help others increase their impact whilst we conduct our daily operations. Also, our formal policies and transparency also served to help with our score. This area is critical for all B Corp Businesses.

B Corp Business - Community

The Community Impact Area assesses a company’s participation in and impact on the communities in which it operates, hires, and sources. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are among the topics covered. As well as this economic effect, civic involvement, charitable giving, and supply chain management are measured. These are areas that all B Corp Businesses should focus on.

We donate 10% of our profits to charity and the trees we plant create employment and an economy for at risk communities. This means our business is a force for good. We have also built the Play It Green model around community and collaboration over competition. Something we are extremely proud of.

Environment and Customers Business Impact Score

The Environment impact Area assesses a company’s overall environmental management practises.  As well as this,  its influence on the environment’s air, climate, water, land, and biodiversity. This encompasses the direct influence of a company’s operations as well as its supply chain and distribution channels, if appropriate. As well as that, this section honours companies with environmentally innovative manufacturing processes and those offering environmentally friendly products or services. Play It Green is proud of the fact we scored so far above the average of B Corp Businesses in our sector.

We’ve all been working extremely hard at Play It Green to reduce the environmental impact of our business and that of our partners. For transparency, we also produce a report on our impact on our about us page.

As a business, we are also extremely proud to have been recognised as ‘Carbon Heroes’ by our peers in the Greater Manchester community.

The final Impact Area of the B Corp assessment is Customers. This analyses a company’s care of its customers through product and service quality. As well as this, it also measures ethical marketing, data privacy and security, and feedback channels.

As a company, we constantly put our members first, taking great effort to provide high quality transparent support, with accurate information, and excellent service. Our team is dedicated to making sure your business has a partner to guide it on its sustainable journey.

Our Commitment to the Future as a B Corp Business

As members of the B Corp community, we support their mission to reduce inequality, alleviate poverty, improve the environment, build communities, and create more high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose. The B Corp designation comes with legally binding requirements that must be met every three years in order for us to keep our certification.

We are constantly striving to help our members to reduce their footprint whilst improving the efficiency and impact of Play It Green. Our primary focus for the next twelve months is to increase the impact of our tech driven business to add more value and ease of use to our members.
