Play it Green, thanks to our amazing members, has now planted over half a million new trees as detailed in our latest Tree Planting Report July 2024.
Not bad, considering we are not just a tree planting organisation!
On top of the trees, we’ve also helped 100,000+ people and 350+ businesses reduce their emissions and passed vital funds to over 38 different UK charities.
Our simple subscription service is about education and impact. Helping you become part of the solution to climate change and grow as a person and a business.
These trees get planted because every £5 per month subscription plants 10 trees a month, businesses add trees to sales, plant to rebalance their emissions or people simply wish to plant a tree for 50p to say thank you or for a special occasion.
Since launching in April 2021 Play It Green has released regular tree planting reports because we wish to answer all your questions and maintain our openness. Play it Green lives its company values.
Play It Green move to a New Planting Partner
Eight months ago Play It Green moved to a new tree planting partner called Veritree. This enabled us to have a wider impact on the planet and greater transparency for our members thanks to their blockchain technology.
Play It Green now plants trees across two continents repairing coastlines, land and the sea.
Every 3 trees planted with Play It Green plants a Mangrove tree to restore coastal communities in Kenya, an agroforestry tree to support land restoration and farmers in Rwanda and Kelp trees in the seas off Canada.
All three types of tree absorb greenhouse gas emissions, help fight climate change and bring new life and prosperity to local communities.
The act of planting trees is very powerful.
Kenya, Mangrove Trees
With your support, we are restoring the mangrove forests in Kenya. The goal of this project is to empower the coastal community.
Coastal Kenya is one of the least developed regions of the country. These communities are dependent on the mangrove ecosystems for employment, livelihood, and nutrition.
Restoring the mangrove coastlines will enrich biodiversity, provide fishing grounds and income streams for local people and act as a line of defence to protect the land during tropical storms.
Rwanda, Agroforestry
1 in 3 trees with Play It Green supports Agroforestry in Rwanda. Providing trees that help bring food, prosperity and land that can be farmed on long term.
Many hillsides have been over-farmed, leading to to soil erosion, landslides and ineffective farmland both on the hills and below. This is a contributing factor to food shortages in the country and malnutrition in children.
This program involves equipping smallholder farmers with the finance, skills, and expertise to improve productivity, soil health, and climate resilience of their crops. This in turn makes farming more profitable, sustainable, and resilient against climate change.
Seas of Canada, Sea Kelp
Planting underwater is something new for Play It Green
Kelp forests absorb lots of CO2 and provide important habitat for a wide variety of marine life.
Kelp forests thrive in cool, nutrient-rich waters along rocky coastlines. These towering underwater forests harbour thousands of marine species, providing food and shelter, much like forests on land.
For this project, Play It Green through Veritree is working closely with Coastal Kelp and the Sechelt First Nations to restore kelp forest along their territory, Hotham Sound and Powell River in British Columbia, Canada.
This project will produce millions of Kelp Sporophytes planted on a mix of line and green gravel.
